The word 'palimpsest' means something reused or altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form.
This painting was an experiment in which I looked for something old, and made it something new. In this case, I found an old pantry door. I didn't want someone to look at it and immediately think of its originals purpose. So I flipped it on its side, and threw some paint on it.
I then incorporated my husband's photography of power lines, and painted organic shapes on top of, and around each photograph. I found the juxtaposition of the dark and geometric power lines, and the colorful and organic paint told a story of a passing of time.
So in the end, rather than just having an old pantry door, there was a new piece of art that told a story of old things being born into new things.
